Art Loss Register
The Art Loss Register (ALR) is the world's biggest private electronic data base for clearing up thefts of art works. Currently comprising detailed records of more than 120,000 stolen collector items and valuable objects – a number which is growing every day – the ALR is an efficient instrument for combating international art crime. ALR has recourse to qualified, multi-lingual art historians who work throughout the world in its offices in London, New York, Cologne and St. Petersburg. By continuously checking the art works commercially available at auction houses, galleries and dealers against the data base, the ALR – in cooperation with the police – contributes decisively towards solving art thefts, preventing insurance fraud and, last but not least, curbing art crime. In statistical terms, every fourth case is solved, which means that it has been possible to identify received stolen goods with a total value of USD 100 million to date.
In case of theft ….
… there are standardized loss report forms which break down the data necessary to identify the art object for entry into the data base. This greatly facilitates the recovery of the items. Through their cooperation with art experts, the ALR staff can also help to value your losses.

…. you can find information about ongoing investigations at http://www.bmi.gv.at/kriminalpolizei/fahndungen.asp. On this site you will also find a link to a "description form" which you can use if you have no relevant documentation – especially photographs – of the stolen objects.
